Soy Wax Candles: Natural, Eco Friendly and Sustainable

Candles have been used for centuries to provide light and warmth, with scent also proven to offer considerable therapeutic benefits. However, not all candles are created equal, and this is one of main reasons The Wick Sanctuary was created.

Soy wax candles are made from soybeans; a completely natural and renewable product. Soy wax candles are free from toxins and chemicals, offering a clean burn with little to no soot. 

Soy wax is made from a renewable resource that is biodegradable and non-toxic. The soybean is grown without the use of pesticides which makes them such an eco-friendly choice. Soy wax is also vegan friendly.

Paraffin wax on the other hand is a by-product of petroleum. It is commonly bleached with dioxin; texturized with acrolyn (a carcinogen); and then mixed with animal-based stearic acid to harden it sufficiently so that it can be made into candles.

Have you ever noticed that some candles can produce a lot of smoke and in some cases even stain your walls? This can happen when burning candles made from paraffin wax. Paraffin wax produces a lot of soot and toxic chemicals when burnt, releasing them into the air - not good for you or your home.

Using soy wax allows for a longer and cleaner burn of your candle. The slower burn means the fragrance from your candles is released more effectively and for longer, allowing you to enjoy the scent for a longer period of time.

You may notice that our soy wax candles cost a little bit more than your high street bought candles and this is why... Generally supermarkets and high street shops will import their candles from abroad, using their bulk buying power to buy vast quantities of items for very low prices, with little consideration given to the quality of the manufacturing process. These candles are often made from paraffin wax and other low quality ingredients, but it isn't always immediately obvious when looking at or even smelling the candle. The burn will often disappoint however, and that "bargain" candle purchase may seem like less of a bargain after all.

In contrast our candles are made with high quality soy wax along with premium essential or fragrance oils. We extensively burn test each and every batch to ensure we are happy with the safety and the quality of the product before it goes on sale. After this we hand finish and hand package each candle. So when we say our candles are handmade, we truly mean that! A lot of time and love goes into each and every candle we make.
